M400PC Accessories
Accessories available include:
- Long
Pass Flowcell 1m - the concept of a 1M long pathlength allows
measurements of extremely low concentrations of analytes. Developed
principally for the water industry, this low volume (only 250uL
sample volume) accessory can show up the differences in purity
between for example distilled water and de-ionised water simply
by measuring the absorbance difference at 250nm which is where
most organic molecules absorb. The accessory consists of a 560micron
(internal) diameter capillary tube that acts as both the sample
holder and the wave guide for the light from the source. This
arrangement is only available for fibre optics systems such as
the M400. The sample is simply injected into the capillary using
a syringe. It can also be pumped through the capillary.

- Diffuse
Reflectance Probe for Measuring Coloured Samples - this probe
can be used for measuring the colour of powders and thick fluids.
The probe tip is dipped into the powder or liquid sample to measure
the diffuse reflectance. This technique is used in quality control
procedures for checking consistency of colour in the sample. The
reflectance results are displayed as a graph and the data are
processed to obtain the x and y co-ordinates for comparison purposes.
The input fibre bundle consists of 6 fibres which are connected
to the probe to illuminate the sample via a silica window set
at 45 degrees. This angle is chosen to avoid collecting the specular,
or directly reflected light from the window and the sample. A
seventh fibre collects the diffusely reflected light from the
sample.

ATR Probe - for reducing the sensitivity compared with a 10mm
dip probe (or 10mm cuvette) by x 10,000. This then allows absorbance
measurements of undiluted samples. This is especially useful in
the process environment.
